Tips for Reducing the Cost of Your Equestrian Vacation
• Travel during the shoulder season. The prices are lower and the crowds fewer during
May, early June and September. May and June are great months to visit Ireland.
• Fly on Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday. These are the least-traveled days of the week
• The best times to book domestic flights are Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, and two to three weeks before your flights. This is the time airlines are trying to fill up the seats.
• Weekend specials are usually released Thursday night, so late Thursday night is a
good time to check for the best deals.
• Airline promotions normally close on Fridays, in addition, when airlines hike prices;
they often do this on a weekend, so Saturdays and Sundays are not your best time to
book.

Searching for an Equestrian Vacation for people who could no longer ride
By Equestrian Vacations, October 6, 2009
When I heard of a horse driven carriage tour in Bavaria, I was excited that I had found an adventure for horse lovers who no longer rode but wished the feel of an equestrian vacation. But I wondered whether one would become bored with sitting in a carriage for several hours. So off I went [...]
Provence
By Equestrian Vacations, September 23, 2009
I have just returned from Provence, France where the horseback vacations vary from mountain to sea rides to hacks through medieval villages. My intent was to understand what makes the terrain in France so unique from the rest of the world so armed with my thesaurus and camera, I ventured through the countryside and mountains [...]

Equestrian Ride Etiquette
By Equestrian Vacations, August 28, 2009
1) Leave one horse’s length between horses; two if trotting. 2) Pass on the left at a reduced speed. 3) On a hill, if a rider needs to pass you, face your horse downhill. 4) Do not ride side-by-side unless the path is wide enough to keep horses from nipping each other. 5) When allowing [...]
My First Equestrian Vacation – Argyll, Scotland, Day 6
By Equestrian Vacations, August 5, 2009
As soon as our horses stepped on the beach, their bodies tensed in excitement for we were going to gallop along a three mile stretch of coastline. No fences, no roads, nothing in our path just free open space to gallop! And gallop we did. The sound of the horses’ hooves pounding the sand announced [...]
My First Equestrian Vacation – Argyll, Scotland, Day 5
By Equestrian Vacations,
This morning I jumped the same wall in front of the Castle that was depicted in the ad which had captured my attention! The day ride continued to dare us with ditches to jump across, banks to jump off, a gallop down a hill and a ride on a narrow trail with crevices on either [...]
Myths about Cooling Your Horse Down
By Equestrian Vacations, July 27, 2009
Ray Goer in his article in July, 2001 The Horse stated that field and laboratory research over the past decade has dispelled the myth that tossing cold water on hot horses will cause muscle damage and tying-up. Applying cold water is effective and safe means to assist your horse in cooling. Hosing a horse is [...]

My First Equestrian Vacation – Argyll, Scotland, Day 4
By Equestrian Vacations, July 7, 2009
“Take your rain gear,” was our morning announcement. Clouds rolled in the sky and a light mist fell on us. Undaunted, we ventured along a former stage coach route. Soon we were so remote into the Scottish highland that cows and sheep ceased to be our companions. We were beyond roads, bike trails and hiking [...]
My First Equestrian Vacation – Argyll, Scotland, Day 3
By Equestrian Vacations, July 2, 2009
In the morning, we ambled along the River Aray searching for salmon as they leaped along the ladders in the water. The ride then entered ancient woods where our noses were filled with the heady aroma of crisp clean pine air. The environmentalist pointed to the abundance of lichen on the trees as a testament [...]
My First Equestrian Vacation – Argyll, Scotland
By Equestrian Vacations, June 22, 2009
Day 2 Our horses were waiting for us in a pasture behind the Inveraray Castle. The temperature was pleasantly cool, the air crisp and a sense of calm prevailed. The sound of a distant bagpiper caused me to feel like I was part of a storybook tale. My horse was a white stocky mare about [...]
My First Equestrian Vacation
By Equestrian Vacations, June 4, 2009
When I saw a rider on a horse jumping over a natural stone wall in front of a castle, I was hooked on this equestrian tour. Having ridden jumpers and fascinated with castles, this seemed to be the perfect horseback vacation for me. A remote location in Scotland with ten people as the maximum number [...]
