You will follow the ancient trails of the Inca Indians. This unforgettable ride will cross through tropical forests with crystal clear streams; deserts with multicolored mountains and wind eroded hills and high altitude grasslands which provide the setting for spectacular sunsets. You will also enjoy the rare privilege of mingling with the local people, delicious traditional foods and famous Argentine wine.
ITINERARY
Day 1:
Transfer from the Salta City Airport to your hotel. After you have settled in you will join your fellow riders in a visit to the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology. The museum houses the best preserved mummies and Incan human sacrifice artifacts.
Day 2:
You will be transferred to La Viňa. The ride will journey along the bubbling Las Pircas stream which runs through the Valle de Lerma mountain forest. This ancient trail remains the only connection with the inhabitants. Your horse will carry you across the Dead Lion range to your El Curqui mountain camp.
Day 3:
Your horse will trek along crystal clear streams in the Lerma Valley to arrive at your camp in Amblayo
Day 4:
A dense forest path will give way to lush mountain grasslands, 9000 feet above sea level. After searching for condors, you will descend into the Calchaqui Desert Valley. The village of Amblayo, home to only 150 people. provides your lodging. A traditional lamb barbecue and renown goat cheese is your dinner feast.
Day 5:
You will ride through the archeological rich Calchaqui Valley. Pieces of ancient painted pottery line your trail. Your camp will be among the mulit colored hills and giant cacti of Isonza.
Day 6:
The day begins with an experience in a working ranch. Farming practices from the Incas are still utilized. After lunch, the ride will take you to ancient pictographs painted on cliff walls. Your horse will then carry you to the steep slopes of Chilo for magnificent views of the two valleys below.
Day 7:
Your transfer to Salta City will take you through Cuesa del Obispe and the Cardones National Park refuge to wild donkeys freed by the Spanish Conquistadors. You will reminisce about your wonderful ride at the farewell dinner.
Day 8:
Transfer to Salta Airport and then fly to Buenos Aires. Spend the day visiting Buenos Aires.
Day 9:
After breakfast, transfer to Buenos Aires Airport
