Sosian ~ meaning ‘wild date palm’ in Samburu, is a working ranch on the Laikipia plateau.

Overlooked by the snow-capped Mount Kenya, the ranch abounds with wildlife and there are more than 250 species of birds. The Euaso Narok river runs through it with waterfalls plunging over rocks creating pools perfect for swimming. The ranch house has seven double cottages, all of which have been decorated by Christl von Plessen with furniture from Kenya and Argentina. The main house has a billiard room, tennis court and swimming pool. Your hosts are Steve and Annabelle Carey. Sosian has 18 horses of varying size, breed and temperament. They are all of a relaxed nature, spending their days roaming the ranch for grazing and stabled at night, keeping them away from any marauding predators. There are also ten riding camels, well trained both for riding and carrying equipment.

Wildlife checklist includes: elephant, hippo, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackal, genet cat, serval cat, baboon, monkey, aardvark, zebra, warthog, bush pig, bushbuck, eland, duiker, dikdik, reedbuck, gazelle, impala, kongoni, wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, waterbuck, mongoose, greater kudu, gerenuk, oryx, klipspringer, steinbuck, galago & wild dog.

Itinerary

DAY 1
On arrival in Nairobi you will be met your guide at Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport and transferred to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Nanyuki, departing at 9.15 a.m.
Flying north, past the Aberdare Mountains and Mount Kenya, you will land at the Nanyuki airstrip and be met by a driver from Sosian for the two hour drive, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon is spent settling-in, followed by a short ride to familiarize yourselves with the horses.

DAY 2:
You may wish to wake up for an early ride and have your first breakfast in the African bush.
Cool off from your morning with a swim in the river for those who dare. In the afternoon you can
choose to go for another ride or a game drive to enjoy the wildlife.

DAY 3

DAY 4
Today will be your last day at Sosian where you can decide to go for a long ride amongst
the game, perhaps a gentle walk and some fishing, or participate in some of the aspects of ranch life such as cattle dipping.
